Volleyball Recap: Garfield Takes a Loss

Garfield was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They were a single set away from ending the streak, but they lost a 2-1 heartbreaker at the hands of the Eastern Christian Eagles. The Boilermakers were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Eagles earlier this season, when they won 2-0.

While Garfield ultimately came up short, they really made Eastern Christian work, particularly in the second set. The match finished with set scores of 18-25, 26-24, 25-18.

Mariana Pati?o paced Garfield's offense, picking up 12 kills. Pati?o got some help from Desislava Uzunova and her 11 assists. Jacqueline Ortega controlled things from the service line, finishing with five aces.

Garfield's loss dropped their record down to 6-12. As for Eastern Christian, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-4.

Coming up, Garfield is taking a road trip to face off against Ridgefield Memorial at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Eastern Christian, they will welcome Elmwood Park at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
