Baseball Recap: Umatilla Takes a Loss

Umatilla couldn't beat McLoughlin on Tuesday even though they stacked four runs on them in the seventh inning. The Vikings fell 12-8 to the Pioneers. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Pioneers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 8-7 back in April.

Carter Griggs was huge no matter where he played even without the win. On the mound, he struck out six batters over 4.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off two hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

In other batting news, David Garcia was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.

Umatilla's loss dropped their record down to 11-7. As for McLoughlin, their win bumped their record up to 9-2.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Umatilla is set to take on their familiar foe Burns at 1:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, McLoughlin will face off against rival Vale at 1:00 p.m. on Friday.
