Baseball Game Preview: Dixie Heights Colonels vs. Cooper Jaguars

The Dixie Heights Colonels will take on the Cooper Jaguars at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Dixie Heights will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each contest than the last.

On Saturday, Dixie Heights narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Western Brown 7-5.

Owen Stulz was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases. That's the most stolen bases he has posted over his last ten games.

In other batting news, Sean Mitchell was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Dixie Heights is 2-1 when Mitchell posts two or more runs, but 4-10-1 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Will Steczynski, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.

Meanwhile, after soaring to ten runs the game before, Cooper was a bit more limited in their match on Saturday. They lost 8-2 to Estill County.

Cooper has also been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-9-1 record this season. As for Dixie Heights, their victory bumped their record up to 6-11-1.
