Softball Game Preview: McMichael Phoenix vs. Morehead Panthers

The McMichael Phoenix will challenge the Morehead Panthers at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with three consecutive losses apiece.

The scorekeeper got an easy start on Wednesday as neither McMichael nor Rockingham County made it on the board until the seventh inning. The Phoenix fell just short of the Cougars by a score of 2-1.

Lindsay Redmon spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on three hits and racked up 12 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Kora Ingle was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one home run. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one home run the last three times she's played.

Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Morehead faced off against Rockingham County on Friday. The Panthers lost 11-1 to the Cougars.

Morehead saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brooklynn Wray, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one double.

Morehead's defeat dropped their record down to 4-7. As for McMichael, their loss was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 7-1 and their overall record down to 15-3.

Monday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. McMichael has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .524. However, it's not like Morehead struggles in that department as they've averaged .514. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.

McMichael beat Morehead 7-3 in their previous meeting back in April of 2025. Will the Phoenix repeat their success, or do the Panthers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
