Jakob Barajas and Jonathan Gonzalez made a big impact no matter where they played. On the mound, Barajas tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Gonzalez struck out 12 batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. Lucerne Valley is 5-1 when Barajas allows three or fewer hits, but 6-7 otherwise. At the plate, Barajas got on base in five of his six plate appearances with four runs, two stolen bases, and two RBI, while Gonzalez went 3-for-4 with two triples, five RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI Barajas has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, Jovani Ceja-Gonzalez was incredible, going a perfect 5-for-5 with one home run, five runs, and seven RBI. Those five runs gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Bryan Baxter, who went 4-for-5 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.
Lucerne Valley always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .673. They are 8-1 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Lucerne Valley's win bumped their record up to 11-8. As for Silver Valley, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-13-1.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Silver Valley has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.3 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Lucerne Valley struggles in that department as they've been averaging 10.2 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
