The Sunnyside Blue Devils are taking a road trip to challenge the Cienega Bobcats at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Sunnyside is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.2 runs per game this season.
Having struggled with five losses in a row, Sunnyside turned things around against Tucson High Magnet School on Tuesday. They came out on top against the Badgers by a score of 10-6.
DIEGO GARCIA made a splash while hitting and pitching. He tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, LUCAS MATA was excellent, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March of 2024. SABINO GONZALEZ was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, after only one run in their last matchup, Cienega made sure to put some runs up on the board against Pueblo on Tuesday. The Bobcats blew past the Warriors 13-3.
CARLOS DAVILA tossed a big game, pitching five innings while giving up three earned runs off four hits.
At the plate, Cienega let JAMES LINZMEYER and NANO LOPEZ run wild. LINZMEYER got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one home run, three RBI, and two runs, while LOPEZ scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. That home run marked the first that LINZMEYER launched this season. Another player making a difference was LIAM SCHMIDT, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-2.
Cienega always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .636. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Cienega's win was their first in the region, bumping their region record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 7-7. As for Sunnyside, their record now sits at 10-7.
Sunnyside was able to grind out a solid victory over Cienega in their previous meeting back in February of 2024, winning 10-5. Do the Blue Devils have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Bobcats turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
