Basketball Recap: Mount Miguel Picks Up Fourth Consecutive Win

Mount Miguel entered their tilt with El Capitan on Friday with three consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with four. They walked away with a 65-54 win over the El Capitan Vaqueros. For the Matadors, this counts as revenge for the 75-65 victory the Vaqueros walked away with the last time they faced one another back in February of 2024.

Mount Miguel had a senior duo take command as Jamell Willey dropped a double-double on 26 points and 11 boards and Hamad Elhamad dropped a double-double on 20 points and 12 rebounds. Those 11 boards set a new season-high mark for Willey. Another player making a difference was Braylon Cardwell, who posted six points.

El Capitan lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Jason Wilson, who went 5 for 12 en route to 17 points. Kale Curo was another key player, putting up ten points and four steals.

Mount Miguel now has a winning record of 10-9. As for El Capitan, they have been struggling recently as they've lost 14 of their last 17 matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-17 record this season.

Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing Helix the next time they take the court. Mount Miguel will host Helix at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, while El Capitan will host them at 7:00 p.m. on January 31st.
