Softball Recap: Robstown Has No Trouble Against Zapata

The matchup between Robstown and Zapata on Wednesday hardly resembled the 3-0 effort from their previous meeting. The Robstown Cottonpickers put the hurt on the Zapata Hawks with a sharp 15-5 victory. For the Cottonpickers, this counts as revenge for the 3-0 win the Hawks walked away with the last time they faced one another back in April of 2023.

Karina Trevino was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, she gave up only zero earned runs, the fewest she's had since back in February. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs.

In other batting news, Robstown got a massive performance out of Ariel Flores, who scored two runs while going 3-for-4. Another player making a difference was Olivia Morales, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4.

Robstown was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .448. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Robstown's victory bumped their record up to 11-5. As for Zapata, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-10-1.

Robstown and Zapata could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings. Robstown will take on Calallen at 7:00 p.m. on March 21st down 295 places (307 vs. 12). Similarly, Zapata (ranked 690th) will meet San Benito (ranked 280th) at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday.
