Grandview is on a four-game streak of home losses, and Toppenish a six-game streak of away losses. However, someone's due for a change in luck on Friday. The Grandview Greyhounds will be playing at home against the Toppenish Wildcats at 3:00 p.m. Grandview will aim to continue their five-game streak of scoring more runs each matchup than the last.
In Tuesday's Canine Competition, Grandview didn't have enough. They came up short against Ellensburg on Tuesday, falling 20-9.
Aileen Ledesma made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs, two stolen bases, and one triple. The team also got some help courtesy of Brenna Snyder, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one triple.
Meanwhile, Toppenish got the win against Quincy on Thursday by a conclusive 14-1.
Frances Tilley was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching five innings while giving up just one earned run off six hits. Tilley was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, Leticia De La Cruz was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Celene Ea, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base.
Grandview's loss dropped their record down to 4-10-2. As for Toppenish, their victory bumped their record up to 4-12.
Friday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Grandview hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .352. However, it's not like Toppenish struggles in that department as they've averaged .381. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Grandview took their win against Toppenish in their previous meeting back in April of 2016 by a conclusive 16-10 score. Will the Greyhounds repeat their success, or do the Wildcats have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
