Football Recap: Huntington Find Success

Huntington's game last Thursday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Thursday. They secured a 34-28 W over the Byrd Yellow Jackets. This was payback for the Raiders, who suffered a 24-20 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Justin Whitaker produced another solid performance throwing for 207 yards and a pair of TDs on only 18 passes, while also rushing for 59 yards on only six carries. Xavier Brown was another key player, rushing for 98 yards on only six carries.

Despite the loss, Byrd had strong showings from Christian Maxie, who rushed for 164 yards and two scores on only 14 carries, and Collin Deere, who rushed for 154 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Maxie really tore up the turf during one magnificent 86-yard run. Eli Stephens also deserves some recognition as he rushed for his first rushing yards of the season.

The victory got Huntington back to even at 3-3. As for Byrd, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-5.

Coming up, Huntington will face off against Parkway at 7:00 p.m. on the 17th. The Raiders will need to watch out since the Panthers have now posted at least 31 points every time they've taken the field this season. As for Byrd, they will square off against Natchitoches Central at 7:00 p.m. on the 17th.
