Softball Game Preview: Waltonville Spartans vs. Red Hill Salukis

The Waltonville Spartans will head out to square off against the Red Hill Salukis at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Waltonville's pitching crew has only allowed 3.9 runs per game this season, so Red Hill's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Waterloo hit Waltonville with a four-run fourth inning on Thursday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Spartans came up short against the Bulldogs, falling 7-1. The Spartans have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Meanwhile, Red Hill had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 14-12 win over Martinsville on Wednesday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Salukis considering their one-run performance the contest before.

The team relied heavily on Chloe Seed, who got on base in three of her five plate appearances with three RBI, one triple, and one stolen base. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season. Another player making a difference was Jayleigh Worland, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Red Hill always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .524. The last time their OBP was this high was back in April of 2024.

Waltonville's loss dropped their record down to 23-9. As for Red Hill, their victory bumped their record up to 4-8.

Waltonville took their win against Red Hill in their previous matchup back in March of 2024 by a conclusive 15-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Spartans since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
