Softball Game Preview: Oskaloosa Bears vs. Wellsville Eagles

The Oskaloosa Bears will venture away from home to take on the Wellsville Eagles at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. One thing working in Oskaloosa's favor is that they have posted at least ten runs in their last nine matches.

Oskaloosa can't be too worried about heading out to take on Wellsville: they just beat Valley Falls at home, who had been dominant on their own field up to that point. The Bears were the clear victors by an 11-1 margin over the Dragons last Monday. Considering the Bears have won seven contests by more than nine runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Wellsville ultimately got the result they hoped for on Thursday. They had just enough and edged out Baldwin 8-7. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Eagles have posted since April 3rd.

Wellsville let Graceyn Hedrick and Taylar Spring run wild. Hedrick went a perfect 5-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI, while Spring went a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. That's the most hits Spring has posted over her last 11 games. Brinlee Hartman was another key player, going 3-for-5 with one stolen base and one run.

Wellsville always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .537. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

The win made it two in a row for Wellsville and bumps their season record up to 9-11. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 7 runs in those games. As for Oskaloosa, they pushed their record up to 11-1 with the win, which was their sixth straight on the road.
