The Tascosa Rebels will head out to face off against the Coronado Mustangs at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Tascosa is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.6 runs per game this season.
Tascosa took a loss when they played away from home on Saturday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Palo Duro a 15-0 shutout. The victory was some much needed relief for the Rebels as it spelled an end to their four-game losing streak.
Christmas Morris made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over four innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 19 consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in January of 2025.
In other batting news, Vanessa Langeland was incredible, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Alyssa Maldonado, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
Tascosa always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .543. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Palo Duro only posted an OBP of .200.
Meanwhile, Coronado lost 16-2 to Lubbock on Friday. The Mustangs have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Coronado saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Sydni Carpenter, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
Tascosa's record is now 12-14-1. As for Coronado, their loss dropped their record down to 3-12.
Saturday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Tascosa hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .324. However, it's not like Coronado struggles in that department as they've averaged .372. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Tascosa suffered a grim 12-3 defeat to Coronado in their previous meeting back in April of 2025. Can the Rebels avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
