Softball Recap: Staunton River Makes It Four in a Row on the Road

Staunton River had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 13-run drubbing they dealt Fleming on Wednesday. The Golden Eagles' pitchers stepped up to hand the Colonels a 13-0 shutout. The win continues a trend for the Golden Eagles in their matchups with the Colonels: they've now won nine in a row.

Emma Alcorn was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI.

In other batting news, Ava Overstreet was excellent, going 2-for-4 with three RBI and two runs. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. Kaitlyn Cooley also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Staunton River's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 19-4. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.3 runs over those games. As for Fleming, they are on a 12-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-16.

As of now, neither Staunton River nor the Colonels have any future games scheduled.
