Baseball Recap: Spruce Mountain Comes Up Short

Spruce Mountain fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Maranacook on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Black Bears by a score of 10-9. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Phoenix of the 10-4 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2024.

Trent Lovewell made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run. That run marked the first that he has scored this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Eli Moffett, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Spruce Mountain's defeat dropped their record down to 2-7. As for Maranacook, their record is now 4-5.

Coming up, Spruce Mountain will face off against Dirigo at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Maranacook, they will challenge Oak Hill at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Raiders have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 10.71 runs per game on average), something the Black Bears will no doubt try to take advantage of.
