Baseball Recap: Avon Gets the Win

Avon took a ten-run loss the last time they faced off against Zionsville, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Orioles had just enough and edged out the Eagles 7-6 on Wednesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Orioles have posted against the Eagles since May 12, 2022.

Clayton Lenz was incredible, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. He is becoming a predictor of Avon's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 4-1-1 (and 6-11 when he doesn't). Jaden Mitchell was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base and two RBI.

The victory made it two in a row for Avon and bumps their season record up to 10-12-1. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of one runs across that stretch. As for Zionsville, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 12-12.

Avon will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Eagles: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
