Basketball Recap: Parkland Takes a Loss

If Parkland was riding high fresh off their 54-27 takedown of Del Valle last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Parkland Matadors were dealt a 50-23 defeat at the hands of the El Dorado Aztecs on Tuesday. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Matadors this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 46-38 back in January.

Parkland's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Brissa Rubal, who posted nine points and three blocks, and Mia Arambula, who earned five points and seven rebounds. The dominant performance gave Rubal a new career-high in blocks.

Even though they lost, Parkland smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in five consecutive matchups.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead El Dorado to victory, but perhaps none more so than Hannah Hicks, who scored eight points and 16 boards. Hicks is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down 12 or more in the last five games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Aralyn Nahle, who went 5 for 12 en route to 12 points.

Parkland dropped their record down to 11-18 with the defeat, which was their fourth straight on the road. As for El Dorado, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 13-14.

Parkland wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 77-16 loss against Americas on the 31st. As for El Dorado, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 45-19 defeat against Hanks on the 31st.
