Basketball Recap: DME Academy Comes Up Short in High-Profile Contest with Montverde Academy

On Tuesday, DME Academy faced Montverde Academy in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The DME Academy - lost to the Montverde Academy Eagles on the road by a 55-41 margin. The - have been going strong on the season, but this is now their second defeat in a row.

Despite the loss, DME Academy still got an impressive performance from GiGi Battle, who posted 16 points along with eight boards and three steals. Battle is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Zaniah Zellous, who earned three points and six rebounds.

Even though they lost, DME Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive boards in three consecutive games.

Saniyah Hall was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double with 21 points and 15 boards for Montverde Academy. The dominant performance gave Hall a new career-high in rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Missy Odom, who scored ten points and five boards.

DME Academy's loss dropped their record down to 24-8. As for Montverde Academy, the win was the 18th in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 25-1.

DME Academy didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 54-52 defeat against IMG Academy on the 1st. Montverde Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
