Baseball Game Preview: Oxford Prep Griffins vs. Roxboro Community Bulldogs

For the second straight game, Oxford Prep will face off against Roxboro Community. The Griffins will take on the Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Oxford Prep is coming into the game hot, having won their last 14 games.

Oxford Prep lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Roxboro Community, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Monday's match. The Griffins blew past the Bulldogs 14-1 on Monday. The result was nothing new for the Griffins, who have now won 13 contests by six runs or more so far this season.

Jayce Elliott made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

In other batting news, Oxford Prep got a massive performance out of Gage Hobgood, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs and two RBI. What's more, Hobgood posted two hits, the most he's had since back in March. Another player making a difference was Davis Faulkner, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.

Oxford Prep's victory was their eighth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 17-2. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.8 runs on average over those games. As for Roxboro Community, their loss dropped their record down to 6-11.
