Softball Recap: Thomas Walker Takes a Loss

Thomas Walker extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 25 on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 0-9 in the process. They lost 10-0 to the Rye Cove Eagles. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Eagles this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 17-0 on April 12th.

As for Rye Cove, their record now sits at 12-4. The result was nothing new for the Eagles, who have now won ten matches by six runs or more so far this season.

For Rye Cove's part, Kenzie Hood made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. Those 11 strikeouts gave Hood a new career-high. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Sara Byrd, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. Those three stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Rheagan Waldon was another key player, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Thomas Walker will welcome Hancock County at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Indians will roll in looking for their eighth straight win, something the Pioneers surely won't give up without a fight. As for Rye Cove, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Twin Springs at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Titans' pitching crew has only allowed 1.4 runs per game this season, so the Eagles' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
