Basketball Game Preview: Wagner Red Raiders vs. O'Neill Eagles

Wagner is 2-8 against O'Neill since January of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Wagner Red Raiders will square off against the O'Neill Eagles at 7:30 p.m. Given that both suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this match.

Last Thursday, Wagner lost to Parkston on the road by a 65-48 margin.

Meanwhile, after soaring to 58 points the game before, O'Neill was a bit more limited in their game on Saturday. They were outmatched by Aurora and fell 64-28. The Eagles' defeat signaled the end of their five-game winning streak.

Wagner will need focus on slowing down Trevor Alder, one of several O'Neill players who made an impact when they last played. He posted 12 points. Westen Kohl was another key player, putting up six points.

Wagner's loss ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 6-3. As for O'Neill, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-6.

Wagner didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against O'Neill in their previous matchup back in January of 2024, but they still walked away with a 63-57 victory. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was O'Neill's Drew Morrow, who scored 19 points and seven steals. Now that he won't be playing on Tuesday, will it be easier for Wagner to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
