Preview: Leominster Blue Devils vs. Fitchburg Red Raiders
Leominster is 8-2 against Fitchburg since November of 2014, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Wednesday. After each having a week off, the pair will shake off the cobwebs and challenge one another at 6:30 p.m. on November 22nd. Fitchburg took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Leominster, who comes in off a win.
After only seven points in their last contest, Leominster made sure to put some points up on the board against Westborough on Friday. Leominster blew past Westborough, posting a 47-14 victory at home.
Leominster can attribute much of their success to Xavier Cora, who rushed for 94 yards and two touchdowns on only 11 carries, and Osiris Lopez, who threw for 197 yards and three touchdowns on only 15 passes. Cora was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 50 yards. Jaidis Delgado also helped out with an impressive 83 receiving yards.
Meanwhile, this season hasn't been kind to Fitchburg, who are still winless after their tenth contest. They took a serious blow against Assabet Valley RVT on Thursday, falling 41-14.
Leominster is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 5-5 record this season. As for Fitchburg, they bumped their record down to 0-10 with that defeat, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season.
Everything came up roses for Leominster against Fitchburg when the teams last played back in November of 2022 as the squad secured a 40-8 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Leominster since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
