Basketball Recap: Ponca City Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Tavionne Akers and Adriel Miller

Ponca City lost against Muskogee back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Ponca City Wildcats received a blow as they fell 69-54 to the Muskogee Roughers.

Adriel Miller and Tavionne Akers certainly did their best on Tuesday to avoid the loss. Miller went 5 of 7 on his way to 13 points and six assists, while Akers went 5 of 7 on his way to 17 points. The dominant performance gave Miller a new career-high in assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Trent Jackson, who posted six points.

They weren't the only one working in the assists department: Ponca City was working as a unit and finished the game with 19 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Ponca City's defeat dropped their record down to 2-5. As for Muskogee, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 2-3.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Ponca City will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Union at 8:00 p.m. on January 7, 2025. As for Muskogee, they will host East Central at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Muskogee has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
