Preview: Woodson Warriors vs. Jackson-Reed Tigers
Woodson is 0-7 against Jackson-Reed since February of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Woodson Warriors will head out on the road to take on the Jackson-Reed Tigers at 5:30 p.m. Woodson is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'.
Last Wednesday, Woodson faced McKinley Tech in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Woodson's tough 52-30 defeat to McKinley Tech might stick with them for a while. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Woodson in their matchups with McKinley Tech: they've now lost six in a row.
Meanwhile, Jackson-Reed stacked an 11th blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard on Wednesday. They blew past Anacostia 65-30 on the road.
It was another big night for Kryslynn Stewart, who scored 17 points along with six steals and five assists. She is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last 12 games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Lucia Nawer, who scored 12 points.
Woodson dropped their record down to 0-9 with that defeat, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season. As for Jackson-Reed, they have been performing well recently as they've won eight of their last ten games, which provided a nice bump to their 14-7 record this season.
Woodson was dealt a bruising 63-23 defeat at the hands of Jackson-Reed when the teams last played back in January of 2023. Can Woodson avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
