After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Wilmington, West Middlesex was happy to have turned things around on Wednesday. They put the hurt on the Reynolds Raiders with a sharp 17-2 win. The result was nothing new for the Big Reds, who have now won seven matches by six runs or more so far this season.
Kyle Gilson made a splash no matter where he played. He struck out 15 batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits (and only one walk). He is becoming a predictor of West Middlesex's success: when he allows at most two earned runs the team is 5-1 (and 3-4 when he doesn't). Gilson was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in May of 2024.
In other batting news, Aiden Puskar was incredible, going 4-for-5 with three stolen bases, four runs, and four RBI. He has become a key player for West Middlesex: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 2-5 otherwise. Union/Allegheny-Clarion Valley's pitching crew has only allowed 4.1 runs per game this season, so West Middlesex's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Reynolds, they are taking a road trip to challenge Maplewood at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Raiders' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Tigers have averaged an impressive 6.3 runs per game this season.
