Basketball Game Preview: Georgiana Panthers vs. McKenzie Tigers

Georgiana is on a 22-game streak of home wins (dating back to last season), while McKenzie is on a six-game streak of away wins (also dating back to last season): one of those streaks is about to end. A feisty cat fight will be fought when the Georgiana Panthers duke it out with the McKenzie Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Georgiana's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last 11 matches.

Last Saturday, Georgiana didn't have too much trouble with Elba as they won 70-52. Given the Panthers' advantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 90th, while the Tigers are ranked 416th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, McKenzie strolled past Kinston with points to spare on Friday, taking the game 68-52.

McKenzie's win came from a few key players Georgiana will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Jay Jackson, who dropped a double-double on 28 points and 15 boards. He continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last five games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Quay Jackson, who posted 19 points in addition to eight assists and five boards.

Georgiana is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 14-4 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 69.5 points per game. As for McKenzie, their victory bumped their record up to 10-3.

Everything came up roses for Georgiana against McKenzie in their previous matchup back in January of 2024, as the team secured a 77-46 win. Will Georgiana repeat their success, or does McKenzie have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
