Volleyball Recap: Garner Comes Up Short

If Garner was feeling good fresh off their 3-0 takedown of South Johnston on Monday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Trojans came up short against the Wake Christian Academy Bulldogs on Tuesday, falling 3-0. The loss continues a trend for the Trojans in their meetings with the Bulldogs: they've now lost six in a row.

While Garner was not able to win a set, they sure kept things interesting: every set was decided by three points or less. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-22, 26-24, 25-23.

Sophie Raymond paced Garner's offense, picking up eight kills. Raymond got some help from Kaitlyn Dean and her ten assists. Reagan Avis controlled things from the service line, finishing with two aces.

Wake Christian Academy found their leader in sophomore Evann Curry, who had 20 digs and three aces. Lydia Deans was another key player, hitting 55.6% for 11 kills and 15 digs and six aces.

Garner's defeat dropped their record down to 1-1. As for Wake Christian Academy, their win was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 2-0.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Garner will head out to challenge Corinth Holders at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Wake Christian Academy, they will venture away from home to square off against Providence Day at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
