Football Game Preview: Meadowbrook Monarchs vs. Matoaca Warriors + Official Tickets

Meadowbrook is 2-7 against Matoaca since October of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Monarchs will take on the Warriors at 7:00 p.m. Meadowbrook is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 28 points per game this season.

Meadowbrook will roll into the contest after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up eight points last Friday, then bounced right back against Colonial Heights on Thursday. The Monarchs put the hurt on the Colonials with a sharp 32-8 victory. The matchup was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 20-0.

A big part of Meadowbrook's win came down to the chemistry between Dashaun Chisem and his top target Dashod Singleton. Chisem threw for 304 yards and three touchdowns while completing 81.8% of his passes while Singleton gained 103 total yards and two touchdowns. Chisem's passing game has become a key predictor of Meadowbrook's success: the team is undefeated when his passer rating is 100 or higher, but only 1-3 otherwise.

Meadowbrook's defense made their presence known, laying out the QB 6.5 times. Kevin Brown was especially locked on to Colonial Heights' QB and sacked him twice. Meadowbrook got some further help from Ricari Enoch-Bailey: he picked up a sack and made 15 total tackles (3.0 for loss).

Meanwhile, Matoaca was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Thursday as they fell 26-20 to Hopewell.

Meadowbrook will have to keep a close watch on Jaelen Penson and Trevion Mills, a pair of players who had a big impact on Matoaca's prior game. Penson rushed for 51 yards and three scores, while Mills rushed for 96 yards.

Matoaca's defeat dropped their record down to 2-7. As for Meadowbrook, their victory bumped their record up to 6-3.
