Basketball Game Preview: Lakewood Presbyterian Knights vs. Faustina Academy Falcons

The Lakewood Presbyterian Knights will face off against the Faustina Academy Falcons at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

Back in December of 2024, Lakewood Presbyterian was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 57-52 to Poetry Community Christian. The Knights have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Steven Montgomery, who posted seven points along with 12 rebounds and four blocks. He has become a key player for Lakewood Presbyterian: the team is 4-1 when he posts at least eight boards, but 4-5 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Yarnell Freitas, who put up seven points along with 11 boards and four blocks.

Even though they lost, Lakewood Presbyterian smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 23 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive rebounds in six consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Faustina Academy, who bounced back after a loss on the road back in December of 2024. They blew past Flint Academy, posting a 51-24 victory. Faustina Academy has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won four games by 20 points or more this season.

Faustina Academy pushed their record up to 4-1 with the win, which was their third straight at home. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 33.3 points. As for Lakewood Presbyterian, their loss dropped their record down to 8-6.

Lakewood Presbyterian took a serious blow against Faustina Academy in their previous matchup back in February of 2024, falling 77-48. Thankfully for Lakewood Presbyterian, Ben Nelson (who almost dropped a triple-double on 22 points, nine rebounds, and nine steals) won't be suiting up this time.
