Softball Recap: Boyd County Lions vs. Frederick Douglass Broncos
Boyd County had lost three straight on the road, but on Saturday they dropped their record down to 17-11 to make it four. They fell 7-3 to the Frederick Douglass Broncos. The Lions were not able to make up for their loss to the Broncos from their previous meeting back in April of 2024.
Boyd County saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jaycie Goad, who went 3-for-4 with one RBI. Another was Grace Stephens, who earned two runs and one stolen base.
As for Frederick Douglass, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-6 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games.
On Frederick Douglass' side, Haley McGuire made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching seven innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. McGuire was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jarynn Bowman, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Kavery Myrick was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run.
