Softball Recap: Durango's Luck Changes for the Better on Friday

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Cimarron-Memorial, Durango was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They put the hurt on the Pinecrest Academy Cadence Cougars with a sharp 24-13 victory. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Trailblazers as it put an end to their five-game losing streak.

Alexia Carey made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed four innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits. Carey was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring four runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in six of her seven plate appearances. Those four runs gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Sage Hanson, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in all seven of her plate appearances. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in RBI (three). Another player making a difference was Aaliyah Oderilong-Louch, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with three runs and four RBI.

Durango always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .842. Their OBP was a full 0 higher than the also-impressive .526 that Pinecrest Academy Cadence posted.

Durango's victory bumped their record up to 3-8. As for Pinecrest Academy Cadence, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost seven of their last eight matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-11 record this season.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Durango is set to take on their familiar foe Desert Pines at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Trailblazers are on a four-game streak of home losses, and the Jaguars a six-game streak of away losses. However, someone's due for a change in luck. Pinecrest Academy Cadence will square off against rival Rancho at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
