Basketball Recap: South Laurel Picks Up Fourth Consecutive Victory

South Laurel waltzed into their match on Tuesday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They blew past the Corbin Redhounds 52-32. The Cardinals have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won four games by 20 points or more this season.

South Laurel got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Maci Messer out in front who went 8 for 16 en route to 19 points along with five boards and three steals. Messer's evening made it four games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jamie Buenaventura, who went 5 of 9 on her way to 10 points in addition to eight rebounds and three steals.

South Laurel was working as a unit and finished the game with 17 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

South Laurel pushed their record up to 9-4 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.3 points per game. As for Corbin, their loss dropped their record down to 11-3.

Coincidentally, South Laurel and Corbin will both be playing Whitley County the next time they take the court. South Laurel will host Whitley County at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, while Corbin will head out to face them at 6:00 p.m. on January 21st.
