Baseball Recap: Oakmont Takes a Loss

Despite a phenomenal run in the regular season, Oakmont couldn't carry that success into this playoff game. They might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 3-1 to the Central Catholic Raiders, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Raiders this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 3-1 on Monday.

Jaylan Patterson was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out six batters over 5.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits (and only one walk). He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.

Oakmont's loss dropped their record down to 25-7. As for Central Catholic, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 22-10 record this season.

While Oakmont had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair will be back at it again later today.
