Recap: Fort Wayne North Side Legends vs. Fort Wayne Canterbury Cavaliers
The Fort Wayne North Side Legends's game last Friday was a tough loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Tuesday. They walked away with a 58-50 win over Fort Wayne Canterbury. Given Fort Wayne North Side's advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 65th, while Fort Wayne Canterbury is ranked 255th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Fort Wayne North Side was led to victory by Javion Davenport and Jaxson Fugate. Davenport dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten assists, while Fugate scored 25 points along with six rebounds. Those ten assists set a new season-high mark for him. Another player making a difference was Eugene Young Jr, who scored eight points along with five rebounds.
Despite the loss, Fort Wayne Canterbury still got an impressive performance from Tucker Day, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 13 rebounds. The matchup was Day's third in a row with at least ten points. Devon Lewis was another key contributor, scoring 13 points.
Fort Wayne North Side's victory bumped their record up to 10-4. As for Fort Wayne Canterbury, they bumped their record down to 2-7 with that defeat, which was their third straight at home.
Fort Wayne North Side is on the road again on Friday and play against Fort Wayne Northrop at 7:45 p.m. on January 12th. Fort Wayne Northrop is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'. As for Fort Wayne Canterbury, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Lakewood Park Christian at 7:30 p.m. Hopefully Lakewood Park Christian focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 17 on Saturday.
