Basketball Game Preview: Holmes County Blue Devils vs. Ponce De Leon Pirates

Holmes County hasn't had much luck against Ponce De Leon recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Holmes County Blue Devils will take on the Ponce De Leon Pirates. Holmes County will be looking to extend their current nine-game winning streak.

Holmes County is headed into the contest after thoroughly thrashing Freeport: they outscored them in every quarter. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Holmes County blew Freeport out of the water with a 72-26 final score. The Blue Devils have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 16 matchups by 21 points or more this season.

Holmes County had a senior duo take command as Bri Adams almost dropped a triple-double on 28 points, nine rebounds, and nine steals and Emma Whitaker dropped a double-double on 25 points and ten boards. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Adams has scored all season. Savannah Goodman was another key player, putting up nine points in addition to seven boards and six assists.

Holmes County was working as a unit and finished the game with 21 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in December of 2024.

Meanwhile, two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Ponce De Leon walked away with it. They snuck past the Wildcats with a 31-25 victory on Tuesday. The 31-point effort marked the Pirates' lowest-scoring game of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.

Holmes County's win was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 21-2. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 29.9 points. As for Ponce De Leon, their victory bumped their record up to 13-7.
