Baseball Game Preview: Immaculata-La Salle Royal Lions vs. Palmetto Panthers

The Immaculata-La Salle Royal Lions will venture away from home to face off against the Palmetto Panthers at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. Immaculata-La Salle is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.9 runs per game this season.

Immaculata-La Salle fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Miami Christian on Wednesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Victors by a score of 4-3.

Alexander Corzo spent all 7.1 innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on seven hits. He has been consistent : he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Immaculata-La Salle saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Hector Sosa, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Palmetto lost a heartbreaker to Southwest when they met back in February of 2024, and they left with a heavy heart again on Tuesday. Palmetto fell just short of Southwest by a score of 3-2. The loss continues a trend for the Panthers in their meetings with the Eagles: they've now lost five in a row.

Gian Carlos Nemer was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits (and not a single walk). Those six strikeouts gave him a new career-high.

Immaculata-La Salle's defeat dropped their record down to 8-4. As for Palmetto, their loss dropped their record down to 3-11.

Palmetto's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Thursday. Immaculata-La Salle has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.8 strikeouts per game.
