Softball Recap: Northampton Comes Up Short

Northampton scored the most runs they've had this season on Thursday, but it wasn't enough. They came up short against the Bruton Panthers, falling 36-11. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Panthers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 22-8 last Monday.

Nitrice Lewis led a balanced group of hitters, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-2. Ortavia Rogers was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with three RBI and one triple.

Northampton is on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 0-4. Those defeats can't be blamed on the team's hitting performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 8.0 runs this season. As for Bruton, the victory snapped their losing streak at four games and leaves them with a 2-6 record.

Coming up, Northampton will face off against Broadwater Academy at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Yellowjackets' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Vikings have averaged an impressive 9.7 runs per game this season. As for Bruton, they will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against West Point at 4:30 p.m. on the 14th.
