Baseball Game Preview: Ripley Vikings vs. Winfield Generals

The Ripley Vikings will square off against the Winfield Generals at 10:00 a.m. on Friday. Ripley will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.

Ripley is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of West Virginia's top teams: George Washington, who was ranked third at the time (Ripley was ranked eighth). The Vikings came out on top against the Patriots by a score of 7-4 on Monday.

Parker Keller and Bryson Casto were major factors while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Keller pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Casto pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in nine consecutive appearances. At bat, Keller went a perfect 3-for-3 with one triple, one double, and one RBI, while Casto got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one RBI. Those three hits gave Keller a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Brady McVay, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run. Those two RBI gave him a new career-high.

Meanwhile, Winfield suffered their biggest loss since April 23rd on Tuesday. They came up short against Point Pleasant, falling 19-6. The Generals have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Winfield's defeat dropped their record down to 21-8. As for Ripley, their victory bumped their record up to 19-8.

Ripley took their win against Winfield when the teams last played back in April by a conclusive 13-3 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Vikings since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
