Baseball Recap: Huntington Triumphs

Huntington's game on Thursday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Friday. They came out on top against the Cabell Midland Knights by a score of 6-1. The Highlanders have beaten the Knights the last three times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Knights has come to flipping the script.

Huntington got a great performance from Caleb Nicely as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over six innings pitched. What's more, Nicely posted four strikeouts, the most he's had over his last four contests.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Cash White, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one double. Tayveon Wilson was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one run.

Huntington now has a winning record of 12-11. As for Cabell Midland, their loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 14-11.

Looking ahead, Huntington will face off against Buckhannon-Upshur at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday. The Highlanders' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Bucaneers have averaged an impressive 6.7 runs per game this season. As for Cabell Midland, they will challenge Raceland at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Rams' pitching crew has only allowed 2.7 runs per game this season, so the Knights' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
