Volleyball Recap: South El Monte Comes Up Short

South El Monte lost against Mountain View two weeks ago, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Eagles fell 3-1 to the Vikings. The Eagles just can't catch a break and have now endured six losses in a row.

The 3-1 doesn't really show just how close this match was: all the sets South El Monte lost were decided by three points or less. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 26-24, 23-25, 27-25, 28-26.

Christopher Rodriguez paced South El Monte's offense, picking up six kills. Rodriguez got some help from Johnson Phan and his eight assists. Finally, Rodriguez was also a dominant defender, finishing with a team-high six blocks.

South El Monte's defeat dropped their record down to 6-11. As for Mountain View, their win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-9.

Looking ahead, South El Monte will welcome West Covina at 3:45 p.m. on Friday. The Eagles are facing the Bulldogs at the right time seeing as the Bulldogs are stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Mountain View, they have already played their next game, a 3-0 victory against Baldwin Park on the 3rd.
