Beau Heaton made a splash while hitting and pitching. He pitched 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Thompson Valley is undefeated when he allows at most one walk, but 6-11 otherwise. Heaton was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one run and one double.
In other pitching news, Thompson Valley got a great performance from Malachi Dougherty as he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over 4.1 innings pitched. Dougherty has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Evan Raabe, who went 3-for-5 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last six games he's played. Brayden Cronin was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base and two RBI.
Thompson Valley was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .486. They are 6-3 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
As for Mountain View, they have been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last eight matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-14 record this season. Having soared to a lofty 15 runs in the game before, they couldn't push the score so high this time.
On Mountain View's side, they saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Tristan Gilbert, who went 1-for-3 with one run.
Thompson Valley will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Mountain Lions: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
