Sanford took a loss when they played away from home on Monday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They were the clear victor by an 18-8 margin over Sargent. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for Sanford considering their one-run performance the matchup before.
Lucas Miller was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned run off one hit (and not a single walk). Miller has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive pitching appearances. Miller was also solid in the batter's box, scoring four runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.
In other batting news, Cash Caldon and Trason Gartrell did most of the damage at the plate: Caldon scored three runs and stole five bases while going 2-for-3, while Gartrell went 3-for-4 with four RBI, a stolen base, and a run. Rylan Mortensen was another key contributor, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 1-for-2.
Meanwhile, Trinidad entered their tilt with Sargent with six consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with seven. They put the hurt on the Farmers with a sharp 19-1 win on Saturday. 19 seems to be a good number for Trinidad as the team scooped up a victory with the same number of runs in their previous game.
Like Sanford, Trinidad also got a great game from a two-way player: Joey Just. On the mound, he kept things locked down with no earned run or hits while striking out 12 over five innings pitched. Just was also big at the plate, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with a double and an RBI.
In other batting news, Trinidad got a massive performance out of Brett Kendall, who scored four runs and stole a base while going 4-for-5. Another player making a difference was Jayson Guzzo, who went 2-for-3 with a home run, five RBI, and two runs.
Sanford's win was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 9-1. As for Trinidad, their record now sits at 8-5.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Sanford has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 12.6 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Trinidad struggles in that department as they've been averaging 5.2. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Sanford came up short against Trinidad in their previous matchup back in May of 2021, falling 6-1. Thankfully for Sanford, Elijah Crosson (who struck out 11 batters over 5.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits) won't be suiting up this time.
