Baseball Recap: Wilbur Cross Takes a Loss

Wilbur Cross extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to eight on Monday, dropping their season record down to 0-6 in the process. They came up short against the Cheshire Rams, falling 9-0. The game marked the first time this year in which the Governors were not able to get on the board.

Wilbur Cross saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Travis Warren, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases. Zavion Mcrea also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

As for Cheshire, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 3-3. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three contests by six runs or more this season.

On Cheshire's side, Stephen Fitzmaurice looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. Fitzmaurice has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up a single walk any time he's pitched this season.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Jackson Enders, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Luke Mann, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Wilbur Cross will host Northwest Catholic at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Cheshire, they will welcome Shelton at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday.
