Basketball Recap: Butler Piles Up the Points Against Independence

Butler hadn't done well against Independence recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Butler Bulldogs claimed a resounding 71-18 win over the Independence Patriots. The Bulldogs have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 12 contests by 22 points or more this season.

It was another big night for Hannah Moss, who went 8 for 16 on her way to 20 points along with seven rebounds and seven steals. She has been hot, having posted three or more steals the last five times she's played. Another player making a difference was Chloe Ross, who almost dropped a double-double on 12 points and nine boards.

Butler smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in nine consecutive games.

Butler pushed their record up to 14-1 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 46.5 points. As for Independence, they are on an 18-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-17.

Butler will take on Garinger at 6:00 p.m. on January 24th. Butler is facing Garinger at the right time seeing as Garinger is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Independence, they will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Charlotte Catholic at 6:00 p.m. on January 28th.
