The Red Bank Catholic Caseys will square off against the Colts Neck Cougars at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday. Red Bank Catholic is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.2 runs per game this season.
Red Bank Catholic took a loss when they played away from home on Sunday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by an 8-2 margin over Marlboro.
Lily Hagan spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on five hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, Nicole Knox was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Brianna Santangelo, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI.
Meanwhile, Colts Neck beat Freehold Township 5-2 on Tuesday.
Angela Sasso was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 13 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits (and only one walk). Sasso was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two RBI, and one double.
In other batting news, Adrianna Bryce was excellent, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. Gabby Bryce was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one triple and one RBI.
Red Bank Catholic's win was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 3-1. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average this season. As for Colts Neck, they now have a winning record of 2-1.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Red Bank Catholic has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.5 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Colts Neck struggles in that department as they've been averaging 10 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
