Baseball Game Preview: South Bend Saint Joseph Huskies vs. Concord Minutemen

South Bend Saint Joseph has gone 8-0-1 against Concord recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Huskies will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against the Minutemen at 5:30 p.m. Concord took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on South Bend Saint Joseph, who comes in off a win.

South Bend Saint Joseph is coming home in high spirits after they had to open their season on the road against Warsaw. The Huskies narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Tigers 9-7.

Jacob Snyder looked comfortable as he pitched 3.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off five hits. What's more, he posted four strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April of 2024.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Joe Washburn, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-4. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of A.J. LaSane, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4.

Meanwhile, Concord unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They fell just short of Lakeland by a score of 2-1 on Tuesday. Surprisingly, this marked the fourth straight game that the away team has come away the victor.

Myles Jones was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out seven over six innings pitched.

On the hitting side, Concord saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Noah Norwood, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base.

South Bend Saint Joseph skirted past Concord 6-4 in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Will the Huskies repeat their success, or do the Minutemen have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
