The Limestone Rockets will challenge the Peoria Notre Dame Irish at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Peoria Notre Dame will be up against a hot Limestone squad: the team just extended their winning streak to four. The Rockets put the hurt on Pekin with a sharp 11-1 victory on Wednesday. With that win, the Rockets brought their scoring average up to 6.2 runs per game.
Alec Williams was a major factor no matter where he played. He tossed 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two runs and one RBI.
In other batting news, Gavin Kleist and Ben Subbert did most of the damage at the plate: Kleist went 2-for-3 with one home run and five RBI, while Subbert got on base in all four of his plate appearances with four runs and two stolen bases. That's the most stolen bases Subbert has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Gavin Klecker, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI and one run.
Limestone kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are 9-1 when they post 11 or more hits.
For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Peoria Notre Dame and Peoria meet (five straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Monday. The Irish never let the Lions get on the board and left with a 15-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Irish, who have now won 11 games by six runs or more so far this season.
Jackson Roe looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has become a key player for Peoria Notre Dame: the team is 4-2 when he allows at most one hit, but 9-13 otherwise.
At the plate, Peoria Notre Dame let Lawson Alwan and Kaiser King run wild. Alwan went a perfect 2-for-2 with one triple, two RBI, and one run, while King went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Kellan McCavitt, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Limestone's win bumped their record up to 18-12. As for Peoria Notre Dame, their victory bumped their record up to 13-15.
