Volleyball Recap: Alameda Pirates vs. Aurora West College Prep Academy Spartans
Alameda was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They were a single set away from ending the streak, but they lost a 3-2 heartbreaker at the hands of the Aurora West College Prep Academy Spartans. If the Pirates were looking for revenge after losing 3-1 to the Spartans when the teams met back in April of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.
Alameda took a 2-1 lead headed into the fourth set, but sadly they lost the next two. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 21-25, 25-21, 21-25, 25-20, 15-12.
Colin Nguyen paced Alameda's offense, picking up nine kills. Nguyen got some help from Damien Ransdell and his 13 assists. Ransdell also made an impact serving: he shared the team lead in aces with Eduardo Cantillo, racking up two apiece.
Leading Aurora West College Prep Academy to victory were Aaron Solorzono and Jesse Dominguez Parra. Solorzono had 12 digs, while Dominguez Parra had 23 kills, seven digs, three blocks, and two aces. Those 23 kills gave Dominguez Parra a new career-high.
Alameda now has a losing record of 3-4. As for Aurora West College Prep Academy, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-4 record this season.
Alameda didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 3-2 win against STEM School Highlands Ranch on the 2nd. As for Aurora West College Prep Academy, they have also already played their next matchup, a 3-0 defeat against D'Evelyn on the 2nd.
