Softball Game Preview: Oceanside Pirates vs. Torrey Pines Falcons

Oceanside hasn't had much luck against Torrey Pines recently, but that could start to change on Monday. Oceanside will head out to take on Torrey Pines at 4:00 p.m. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Oceanside's tournament run continued when they took on Southwest EC on Saturday. Oceanside walked away with a 7-4 victory over Southwest EC. That three run margin sets a new team best for the Pirates this season.

The team relied heavily on Hannah Narcy, who scored a run and stole a base while going 3-for-3. Another player making a difference was Anaiah Filo, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.

Oceanside was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .480. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Meanwhile, Torrey Pines was not the first on the board last Friday, but they got there more often. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Mt. Carmel 7-5. The victory continues a trend for the Falcons in their matchups with the Sundevils: they've now won seven in a row.

The win made it two in a row for Oceanside and bumps their season record up to 3-6. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to hits: they averaged an imposing 12 hits in those games compared to only 3.71 in the others. As for Torrey Pines, their record now sits at 4-5.

Oceanside came up short against Torrey Pines when the teams last played back in March of 2024, falling 7-2. Can Oceanside avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
