Baseball Recap: Holmes Comes Up Short

Holmes extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to seven on Thursday, dropping them down to 0-2. They fell 8-5 to the Weslaco Panthers. The Huskies were not able to make up for their defeat to the Panthers from their previous meeting back in February of 2024.

As for Weslaco, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 3-0. Eight seems to be a good number for them as the team scooped up a victory with the same number of runs in their previous game.

For Weslaco's part, Carlos Reyes looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits.

On the hitting side, Weslaco let Ethan Silva and Avel Salinas run wild. Silva went a perfect 1-for-1 with two RBI, one run, and one double, while Salinas went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and one double. Those two RBI gave Silva a new career-high. Diego Castillo was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two RBI and one double.

Holmes has already played their next matchup (against Zapata), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. As for Weslaco, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 7-6 win against Gregory-Portland on the 20th.
